I Got my heart checked today...
I've been feeling like that lately. Like I was standing in the middle of beauty and was somehow missing all of it. It reminds me of an anecdote that my mother used in one of her sermons:
"A man from KY had always wanted to go to NYC. And, the ONE thing that this man wanted more than anything was to see the Empire State Building. All his life he'd dreamed of just seeing this famous monument. He saved and he saved his meager earnings and one day, he was finally able to go to NYC. The whole flight there all he talked about was the Empire State Building. The whole cab ride through the city all he talked about was the Empire State Building. Finally when the cabbie let him out at the corner the man was wher he'd always dreamed of being: right at the foot of the Empire State Building. The man looked around...there was garbage on the street. A piece of old gum had been smeared on the section of wall nearest him. The corner smelled of urine. The walls were black with soot and waterstains. This couldn't be the place! This couldn't be what he had dreamed of for so long! The man was so broken hearted that he wept right there in the street. Before long, an uncharactericticall kind Hew Yorker happened upon the weeping, broken man and asked what the matter was.
The man said "All my life I dreamed of being near the beauty and majesty of the Empire State building. I saved and a I saved. And I finally get here and, look!" He indicated all the dirt and filth around him.
The New Yorker smiled. "I think I understand the problem," He said "Step back. You're standing too close."
Sometimes when we are so close to beauty that is so grand and so overwhelming-we see only the flaws. Ever look at a super model in close up and see how truly un-super she is? Lately, I've been so close to something so beautiful I lost perspective on how beautiful that thing was. This morning-after I got my heart checked (John 14 in the house!) I took a step back and got my perspective. That thing I had lost...it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Yeah, but I need a new landscape. I've had enough Mayberry to last me a lifetime.

Not necessary liking it, just seeing it with new eyes.
Quite possibly, but trust me when I say it's doubtful that I'll want to come back to Mayberry...lol
but who knows, just glad I'm finally leaving.

GG was right, when you see it with those new eyes that have seen the other, you'll realize that it wasn't Mayberry but the way you saw it! It's in you. It made you.
FYI, there is nothing wrong with looking for something new to gaze upon, though.
